Thurmond LeGrand Matthews

Thurmond LeGrand Matthews "Banjo", 79, of Leesville, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Matthews was a son of the late Woodward W. and Rosa Lee McCarty Matthews. He proudly served in the United States Army National Guard and retired from Engineering Manufacturing Resources as a tool and die maker. Known affectionately as “Banjo,” he will be remembered for his kind heart, strong faith, and love for his family.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Darlene Hendrix Matthews of the home; daughter, Tania Matthews; and son, William L. Matthews.  He is also survived by his brother, Keith Matthews (Beth); brother-in-law, Aubrey Hendrix (Meade); sister-in-law, June Mabus (Robert); and brother-in-law, Kent Hendrix.

The funeral service for Mr. Matthews will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, August 1st at Milton Shealy Funeral Home with Rev. H. Barry Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Quattlebaum Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock.
