Walter was a faithful member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, where he and his beloved wife, June, worshipped together for many years. He faithfully served the church as a deacon and Sunday School secretary. Following his retirement from Stone Container in 1995, Walter devoted his time to two of his greatest passions: farming and caring for the grounds at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, a labor of love that reflected his servant's heart. He was also a proud United States Army veteran.

Surviving are his loving wife of 77 years, June B. Quattlebaum; children, Janie Bowers (Johnney) of Lexington, Sherry Fallaw (Thomas) of Monetta, Jimmy Quattlebaum (Cindy) of Batesburg, Kathy Sheppard (Wade) of Batesburg, and John Quattlebaum of Batesburg; grandchildren, Christopher Bowers (Brittany), Benji Bowers (Shawnna), Gregg Fallaw, Joshua Quattlebaum (Megan), Stacy Quattlebaum, Curtis Sheppard, and Holly Heywood (DJ); great-grandchildren, Madison, Walker, and Andrew Bowers, and TaLynn and Xander Heywood. He is also survived by special friends, the Jimmy Gay family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Quattlebaum Paradice; brother, John H. Quattlebaum; and his grandson, Jay Fallaw.

The funeral service for Walter will be held at 11 o'clock on Thursday, July 23rd, at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Bill Paulling will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening, July 22nd, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel. Active pallbearers will be: Joshua Quattlebaum, Curtis Sheppard, Gregg Fallaw, Benji Bowers, DJ Heywood, Walter Paradise, Wyatt Eargle, and Robert Fox. Honorary pallbearers will be: Larry Paradise, Richard Senterfeit, Steve Taylor, Oliver West, Gary Oswalt, Cliff Kneece, and Steve Gantt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, c/o the Hostess Committee, Deacon Discretionary Fund, or Building Fund, 5 Lion Loop, Batesburg, SC 29006.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Saluda Nursing and Rehab Center for the compassionate care, kindness, and love they showed Walter throughout his time there.
