Wanda Faye Sowell, 76, of Lexington, formerly of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 1, 2026. Born in Lancaster, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Vera Phillips Baker. Mrs. Sowell was a devoted member of Springdell Baptist Church in Lancaster, where she faithfully sang in the church choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Her life reflected a quiet dedication to her faith, her church, and her community.


She is survived by her loving daughter, Paula Bowers (Kirby); her cherished grandsons, Zachary Sowell and Dalton Floyd; her sister, Deborah Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her with great affection. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Keith Baker and Donnie Baker.


A service to celebrate Mrs. Sowell’s life will be held at a later date at Springdell Baptist Church in Lancaster. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel, is assisting the Sowell family.
