William Edward Britton

William Edward Britton, Sr, 69, of Aiken, beloved husband of Gail Hughes Britton passed away peacefully January 25, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Britton was born September 27, 1938 in Charleston, S.C. to the late William Joseph Britton Jr. and Frances Malone Britton. He has lived in Aiken, S.C. since 1999 and was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 38 years of service where he was a Supervisor of Nuclear Planners and Estimators. He was a member of St. Mary's Help of Christian Church and a lifetime member of Elk's Lodge #242 in Charleston.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Gail Hughes Britton, a son William Edward Britton Jr. of Blythwood, S.C.; a daughter Lynn Britton Rowland Bruce of Aiken, S.C.; three grandchildren; Bruce, Victoria, and Anna Rowland. One brother, James F. Britton of James Island; one sister, Margaret Britton Holseberg Leroy of James Island; 6 nephews and 5 nieces.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with a rosary being recited at 6:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Downtown, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston, S.C. The funeral services will be conducted on January, 28, 2008 at 10:00am at Nativity Catholic Church on Folly Road, James Island, with the Monsignor Charles Rowland, a lifelong friend officiating. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to everyone at Regency Hospice and especially to two very special nurses and friends Sherie and Terri.
