William Richard Scott Lane, 51, of Gilbert, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026. Born in Lexington County, he was the son of Patsy Whittle Lane and the late Richard Leonard Lane.
Scott was an avid outdoorsman who found his greatest joy in the woods and on the water. He loved hunting, especially deer, dove, and squirrel, and was equally at home with a fishing rod in his hand. He enjoyed riding four‑wheelers and spending time outside doing the things that made him feel free.
A talented welder, Scott owned and operated Lane’s Welding. He took great pride in his work and was known for his skill, creativity, and willingness to tackle any project put in front of him.
Scott was a man who loved big and lived boldly. He had a tough exterior, but those who knew him best understood the depth of his heart. He especially loved “wheeling and dealing,” always looking for the next good trade or opportunity. His personality was unmistakable: strong, spirited, and unforgettable.
Surviving are his mother, Patsy Lane; son, Tyler Lane; and his sisters, Lisa Lane Rowe and Kelly Lane; and girlfriend, Rose Wingard. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew: Mackenzie Warren (Justin), Chase Smith and Hannah Smith (fiancé, Slayter).
A private celebration of life for Scott will be held by family and close friends. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville Chapel, is assisting the family.
